DESIGN

The hull below the water consists of an undistorted sea kindly canoe body, developed from mid-ship sections of moderate dead rise. Lift and stability is provided by a low center of gravity club-footed fin keel. The spade rudder is balanced with an aspect ratio of about 2.7 of carbon fiber.

The deck plan has the cockpit located far aft and the side decks are kept wide by keeping the trunk as narrow as the interior arrangement allowed.

The fractional sail plan is designed for efficiency and to compliment the traditional hull lines. The inner forestay is removable, the jib is furling and the main is set up for in the boom furling.

The mast is of carbon fiber, built by GMT Composites, fully tapered and with wall thicknesses optimized over the length of the spar. The boom, with in-boom furling for the main sail, is of aluminum, built by Forespar. The in-boom furling gives roach, shape and COG advantages over an in mast design.

The mast has 3 pairs of aft swept spreader and is supported by discontinuous rod rigging and a fixed backstay.

The below deck arrangement when entering from the cockpit has a U-shaped galley to port with a reefer/freezer aft, a double sink forward and the stove in between. The engine is located below the centerline galley counter with service access through hatches on all four sides. Opposite the galley is a single berth navigator's cabin with the navigation station located forward of the cabin.

The salon has a U-shape settee to port and a bench seat/extension berth opposite. Lockers and book cases are outboard, a fore and aft sliding drop leaf table on center and a fire place in the forward end. The forward cabin is arranged with vee-berths forward and lockers aft. The head with shower is located to port between the salon and forward cabin with the wet locker opposite side.

Joinery and Styling

The timber used for deck joinery is Murmain Burmese teak and the styling is traditional of the Thirties.

Light colored teak (honey teak) is used for the interior woodwork.

The accommodation are finished in traditional Herreshoff style white painted bulkheads, fronts and doors and varnished trim. The deck heads are tongue and groove with exposed beams and painted throughout. The cabin soles are teak and holly or teak gratings all varnished.
